A Cayuga County man has been arrested by New York State Police for allegedly raping a child younger than 15 around two years ago.
Christopher T. Quaile, 43, of Locke, was apprehended March 10 and charged with second-degree rape (a Class D felony), state police said in a Ìý³§²¹³Ù³Ü°ù»å²¹²â.
Police said the investigation began Jan. 14, when Cortland County Child Protective Services contacted troopers about disclosures made by the child. It was then determined that Quaile engaged in criminal sexual conduct with the child multiple times in July 2023.Â
After coordinating with the Cayuga County District Attorney's Office, police obtained an order on March 5 to get Quaile from the Cayuga County Jail, where he was being held on separate charges.Â
Following his arrest on the rape charge, Quaile was taken back to the jail to await arraignment.Â
Prosecutors recommended no bail for Quaile due to his prior felony convictions and his pending sentencing on an unrelated felony case, police said.
According to Ë®¹ûÅÉAV archives, Quaile was also charged in January with second-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child. He was charged twice in the mid-2010s with failure to report a change of address as a sex offender.
The Justice Department Inspector General has released a harshly critical report about the FBI's handling of investigations into allegations of child exploitation. And this report identifies multiple ways in which the FBI is continuing to fall short in these types of investigations.
