Cato-Meridian volleyball moved to 8-7 on the season after defeating the Syracuse Academy of Science in four sets on Tuesday on the road.
The Blue Devils won sets two, three and four by scores of 25-16, 25-20 and 25-20.
Mckenzie Smith led the team 15 serve points, four aces and 18 digs. Avani Cole finished with 18 total points and 18 digs, while Caitlin Salmonsen ended with 13 total points, 16 assists and four digs.Â
Mackenzie Mahoney racked up 17 total points, 10 digs, one assist and one block. Mollie Walton tallied 9 total points and 27 digs.
Cross-country
Port Byron/Union Springs vs. Weedsport vs. Bishop Grimes: The Panther girls and boys teams each came away with a victory on Tuesday at home. For the boys, Kurt Akins placed first with an 18:23. Matthew Howell recorded a 21:03 in fourth place, while Richard Beach took sixth with a time of 21:25. Gavin Alnutt ended in 10th with 22:39. On the girls side, Ellen Crowley was the first runner to cross the finish line, posting a 23:03. Morgan Yorkey finished with 23:47 in second, while Margaret McNally claimed third with a 24:34. Sam Lowery was Weedsport’s boys top runner with a 19:55 in second place. Jay Lowery placed third with 20:21, while Tayson Kepple recorded a 22:09 in seventh.

Auburn: The Maroons' boys and girls each placed in the overall top 15 at the Manhattan College Invitational on Sunday. The girls placed fourth out of 132 teams, while the boys side placed 14th out of 176 squads. Jack Gregory scored one goal and Marbel Perez finished with one assist. Goalie Lucas Walawender racked up five saves, while Moravia’s Jack Lemmon recorded seven saves.
Phoenix 2, Jordan-Elbridge/Cato-Meridian 0: The Blue Devils allowed both goals in the second half on Tuesday in their loss on the road.

Bishop Grimes 3, Jordan-Elbridge 0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-22): The Eagles’ nine-game winning streak was snapped on Tuesday on the road. Sydney Parsons finished with 13 total points, while Zoie Karcz concluded with 7 total points, 11 assists, four digs and one block. Madison Clochessy tallied 11 total points and three digs, and Isabella Jay ended with 8 total points and 13 digs.Â
Central Square 3, Auburn 0 (25-11, 27-25, 25-20): Grace Mack racked up seven kills, eight digs, five assists and four blocks on Tuesday in the Maroons’ road loss. Tionna Edghill finished with 5 total points, five blocks and three digs, while Zoey Carrington ended with 12 digs and three blocks.
